LCRA Developments

Bad news on two fronts: First, the LCRA is still planning to build a sewerage plant just north of the creek, and second, they are considering putting 120-foot power-line towers near the neighborhood. There will be a meeting on March 10th to discuss it.

Sewerage Plant: We have known for over two years that the LCRA is planning to build a new sewerage plant (a.k.a. "water treatment" plant) for the city of Hutto somewhere along the Brushy or Cottonwood creeks. The Lookout POA has been working with the LCRA and the city of Hutto to place that plant downstream of our neighborhood. However, some trouble with the site we proposed now has the LCRA leaning towards building on land just north of our neighborhood along Brushy Creek. The final decision has not been made, but it looks like that is where it is going to be unless we do something to stop it.

Power Lines: The LCRA is also planning to build a new 345-kilovolt double-circuit transmission line between the Clear Springs and Zorn substations in Guadalupe County to the Hutto Substation in Williamson County. That translates into 120 foot high power-line towers running through our nice country view. Two of the proposed routes run right along the north side of Brushy Creek.

Here are the possible routes. Zoom in on the first page to get a better view of our area. The possible routes are the orange dotted lines, and they show several different paths the power-lines could take. Each path is broken into a number of shorter segments that are labeled by number. Segments 6 and 7 run right next to the creek and would visible to everyone in the subdivision. They are our main concern. What we would really prefer is the route that uses the long segment 5-A, which runs much further to the east through what is now mostly farmland.

The LCRA is interested in community feedback and has posted a questionaire for us to answer. I encourage everyone in the neighborhood to look at the map and fill out the questionaire. Again, the board feels that route 5-A is our best option.

Meeting: We are holding a neighborhood meeting on Friday, March 10th at 7pm. It will be held at 131 Brushy Creek Trail. Note that the driveway entrance is actually on County Road 139. Please come to hear more details and to help us implement our strategy.
